Hello Families
Lots of exciting things happening at Grant MacEwan School over the past two weeks. Ms. Janzen’s and Ms. Stremick’s grade 4 classes have been participating in the Healthy Living School at the YMCA. Scientists in School were engaging our grade 3 and grade 5 students in cool hands on science activities over the past few weeks. Elev8 Lacrosse was in two days last week for a free clinic for all students. The students wouldn't stop talking about all the "cool tricks" they learned and it was evident that they had an absolute blast learning some new lacrosse skills.

Updates and Information
February Food Drive
Our school will continue hosting a February Food Drive to engage our students in acts of kindness to support community members in need. We have six boxes to fill and if we need more boxes, we can always request more. The food bank will pick up the boxes the week of March 2. Please talk to your students about the food drive and why it's important. We have included a link to the Food Bank wish list for items that are most needed. If you have any questions, please ask your homeroom teacher.
Thank you for all your support in this worthy cause!
Pink Shirt Day
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, wear a pink shirt to help spread kindness and a sense of belonging!

Learn and Share | School Planning
We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we’ll be sharing information about school planning at the next Council meeting on Thursday March 6 at 6:00, and ask you to share your perspectives.
During this engagement, you will have the opportunity to:
1. Learn About
- School planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget and school fees
- How the school development plan sets the overall focus and direction for a school to improve student learning outcomes
- How the school budget provides funding to implement our school development plan
- School fees and why they are necessary
2. Participate
- Participate in our School Council meeting on March 6 to learn more about school planning. There will be an opportunity to provide feedback at this meeting.
- Share your perspectives through an online survey open from February 25 to March 20. Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning.
We’ll send you a link to the survey, our school development plan and school budget and fees information in a separate SchoolMessenger email. We will also post it on our school website.
Please take a few minutes to review the materials and respond to this survey. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Grant McPhail, Principal
