The main door of the school is open from 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM. For security reasons all other doors remain locked during the day. This enables us to monitor all visitors to our school. Safety and security of our students is of utmost importance, and we need your help with this! Please help us ensure the safety of our students by following our established safety and security guidelines, which include:

  • All parents and visitors (including former students) must enter the school through the front doors and report to the office. Office staff will request that you sign in and put on a visitor tag if you need to go to a classroom or another part of the building. Anyone not wearing a visitor tag will be asked by staff members to return to the office to sign in.
  • Parents and older siblings are asked to remain outside of the school at entry and dismissal time, and needn’t accompany their children into the building. If you wish to speak to a staff member, please enter through the front door and report to the office
  • Students arriving late need to enter through the front doors and report to the office so that they can be recorded as late and get their late slips.
  • Students who need to leave the school early for appointments will be called to the office to meet their parents. Please remember to check out with the office staff.

Fire Drills & Footwear

CBE regulations require schools to  fire drills in which all children are required to participate. It is important that your child have shoes on their feet at all times while in the school as we are required to exit the building immediately when the fire bell rings.

Matters of Legal Custody Documentation

If you have legal custody of your child(ren), please make sure the school has the appropriate up to date documentation on file. This is required in order to clearly identify who has legal access and consequently who is entitled to review the student record. Any forms relating to your child must be signed by the Custodial Parents or Legal Guardian of the child. Any educational decisions about your child must also be made by the Custodial Parents or Legal Guardian. Step Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, etc. are not allowed to sign any documents from the CBE. This includes but is not limited to field trip forms, permission slips, etc.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.

Video Surveillance Technology

The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33(b). The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.

Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.

For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
