One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.
Upcoming Meeting Dates
Meeting Dates/Schedule
We usually meet once a month on Thursdays at 6:00 PM in-person in the multi-purpose area or virtually using Microsoft Teams. We will send a link to the meeting closer to the meeting date so people can join virtually. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend these meetings.
About Our School Council
Our School Council is an active association of parents and professional staff who work together to promote the well-being and effectiveness of our school. It is a means to facilitate cooperation within our school, as well as advice and consult with the school administration. Please feel welcome to attend the meetings, which are usually held once a month. We often feature a specific topic of interest or learn about a program of study to keep families informed. Watch for topics, dates and times on our school calendar.
Being a part of the school council is a great way to stay informed about emergent issues and to have a voice in decisions about the school’s operation. If you are inclined to serve on the Council, please call the school to express your interest in a position or email the principal Grant McPhail at GAMcPhail@cbe.ab.ca
